Both are under Account. The name takes effect at once; the email address moves in two steps, because the proof that matters is that you own the new inbox.
Your name
Anything from 1 to 60 characters. It is shown in the app to you and nobody else.
Your email address
-
Enter the new address
If the account has a password, you enter it here. If two-factor authentication by authenticator app is on, a current code is needed too. Moving the address moves every way of recovering the account, so a signed-in app on its own is not enough.
-
Enter the code sent to the new address
A 6-digit code goes to the new inbox and is good for fifteen minutes. A heads-up goes to the current address at the same time, so an address cannot be moved quietly. One change can be in progress at a time; asking again replaces the earlier one.
-
Done, and verified
The new address is the account's address and counts as verified, since the code came from it. The app then offers to sign out your other devices; take it if any of them is not yours.
What follows the address
- Phones you have been given access to by accepting a share stay with your account.
- Invitations you have not accepted yet stay with the address they were sent to. An invitation addressed to the new email appears after the change.
Messages you might see. "This is already the account's email address" when the new one matches the old; "email taken" when another account already uses it.
